From 1993 to 1994, Fantail Books produced a series of six Adventure Gamebooks starring Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends (and enemies!). These books, in the vein of the genre-defining Choose Your Own Adventure series, have the player read the book not in order from the first page to the last, but instead make a decision at the end of each section and turn to the appropriate page to see how the decision plays out.
The books make varying use of the page space available. All six have 300 individual sections, but some feature more gratuitous padding than others, with extended maze sections or bonus games which can theoretically loop for long periods, depending on player choice and/or luck. Some of the books also make more efficient use of the storytelling opportunities, with certain instalments being significantly more generic than others.
While the series ended at six instalments, a further two Sega Adventure Gamebooks by Fantail were also produced. These focused on the Eternal Champions and expanded the world of that video game. These books are not to be confused with the Adventure Gamebooks by Ladybird.
