In 1994, to tie in with the release of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, French publisher La Sirène released a pair of publications based on the Sonic the Hedgehog license.
The first release in this minor continuity, Sonic Adventures: In the Claws of Robotnik, was a bande desinée (effectively the French equivalent of comics or manga) adaptation of elements of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 while also including Amy Rose. The second, Sonic & Knuckles: The Ultimate Guide was a more traditional walkthrough featuring comic strip elements.
Though this is one of the smaller continuities, there’s plenty of personality in the art in the traditional European comics style. The comics also make use of the Kintobor backstory, making them a rare example of a non-British adherence to the since-abandoned origin for Sonic and Robotnik.
