Starting in 2023, Sega of Japan’s TikTok account began posting brief adventures starring Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Doctor Eggman. These animated escapades, in keeping with much of the content on TikTok, were brief, sometimes only lasting a few seconds.

If you’ll forgive our cynicism, the series, for lack of a better term, arguably exists primarily to promote merchandise in the Sonic & Friends art style. There are a handful of storylines throughout but as many, if not more, of the sequences merely depict the Sonic cast dancing to popular music.

The thirty-ninth episode of the series also introduced Shadow to proceedings, possibly as Shadow was enjoying a large promotional push at the time, but arguably to reflect his place in the Sonic character hierarchy. With many of the Sonic video games’ regular cast being available on Sonic & Friends merchandise, it remains to be seen which of them, if any, may similarly appear in future.

Below are the first 39 episodes of the Sonic & Friends animated series, such as it is. Expect updates to include later episodes. Given the nature of the medium and the length of the individual shorts, it is difficult to properly review any of this series, so we’ll likely revisit this in the future.
