Between 2003 and 2005, TMS Entertainment produced Sonic X, the first long-running anime series based on Sonic the Hedgehog. The series would be localised into English by 4Kids Entertainment, the company which had brought the Pokémon anime to the west. Sonic X would be the first Sonic animated series to make a concerted effort to adapt video games into storylines.

Sonic X instantly turned heads in the Sonic fan community for its vibrant animation and art style, along with its exciting machine designs for the mechanical foes Sonic and his friends would face. The English language cast would also go on to reprise their roles when their characters appeared in the Sonic video games for the next several years. Perhaps most notably of all, Sonic X represented the first time Mike Pollock voiced Doctor Eggman- a role he has retained until the present day.

The series’ third season would not actually air in Japan until 2020, airing initially in France in 2005 and later in the US from 2005-2006. This third season was a radical departure from the series format and, in a change nobody could have seen coming, had Sonic travelling through space. Throughout the three seasons, Sonic and his friends were joined by a selection of new characters, chief among which were Chris Thorndyke, a lonely child who made fast friends with Sonic. Note that the Sonic X comic series is listed on the Archie Comics page as the continuity disparities between the anime and the comic make them incompatible. Given Archie’s take on the Sonic multiverse, it can be assumed this is another alternate reality with similarities to the TV series.

The following table lists each Sonic X episode in order of their original airdate. Note that Beating Eggman was a two-part story. Please note that for the time being, this site concerns itself only with the English-language version of the series. This is subject to change in the future as we are aware the Japanese version’s scripts are quite different.
