In 2018, Penguin published two short story collections starring Sonic and his friends and foes. The two were loosely themed, with the first being entitled Sonic and the Tales of Deception and the second being Sonic and the Tales of Terror.

The two books were aimed at readers aged around 7-10 but manage to feature decently entertaining adventures for any Sonic fan. The stories aren’t full length prose like the Virgin books, but are perhaps more engaging than a number of the Sonic books written in both the UK and the US aimed at young readers.

There isn’t too much to differentiate these books from the continuity of the video games, given they share characters and even reference events which happened in the games. However, they are listed here as a divergent continuity because of the elements original to the stories.
